The microphone is not working

You can test the microphone in the Virtual Room before joining a meeting to make sure it works properly.
The following steps will guide you through manually testing your microphone.

Prerequisites for verifying the device's microphone and speakers

  • A microphone : such as the built-in microphone, a USB microphone or a microphone built into the headset
  • Speakers or headphones
  • Allow access to audio / video devices via the "Grant Access" button on the initial screen of the verification phase.

The microphone does not work

Try the solutions below

  • If your headset has a mute button, make sure it is not active.
  • Make sure your microphone or headphone is properly connected to your computer.
  • Make sure the microphone is positioned correctly.
  • Turn up the microphone volume. Here's how to do this in Windows 11:
    1. Select Start > Settings > System > Audio.
    2. Under Input select a microphone to view its properties.
    3. In Input Volume turn the microphone volume up to maximum,
    4. If not, go to Test the microphone and Start the test. This way you can troubleshoot any problems with the microphone.

Check your browser settings

It is important to check your browser permissions and settings. If you are already on this page it means that you have already allowed the browser to use the microphone but for safety we check that everything went well.

Regardless of whether you are using Chrome or other browsers, such as Microsoft Edge or Firefox, you can proceed to check permissions via the browser settings and then find the camera and microphone.

For example, in Chrome:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > view permissions and data stored between sites
  2. From here enter "ufirst Virtual Room" in the Search
  3. field
  4. Click on the list entry "ufirst Virtual Room"
  5. Here, set camera and microphone to Allow access to these devices.

If there is physical damage to the device or if the problem persists after restarting the computer, try using a different device.
